goDCgo Impact: Contributing to a Greener City

As an initiative of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), goDCgo's top priority is to encourage the use of sustainable transportation among DC commuters, residents, and visitors by providing complimentary resources and consulting services that help raise awareness and educate the public about the many ways to get around the city besides driving alone. Our goal serves to decrease traffic congestion, improve air quality, and create a better quality of life for everyone in the DC area.

Established in 2010, goDCgo focuses on increasing awareness and building support for sustainable travel options, such as transit, walking, biking, scooting, and carpooling to destinations across the District. Through outreach and community engagement, our program has made a substantial impact in changing commuter behaviors and helping businesses contribute to the District’s sustainability goals. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, our small team has still managed to make a strong impact by helping to keep 39,000 cars off the road each day between July 2020 to June 2021. We've also:

      • Helped 36,000 people shift to a clean commute.
      • Decreased traffic by saving 645,000 car miles each day.
      • Contributed to cleaner air by reducing 472,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each day.
      • Saved natural energy by eliminating 32,000 gallons of gas each day.

In addition to the above, our efforts have been recognized locally and worldwide! This year, we received the Strategy Pivot Award for our "Pedal for Wellness" bike campaign from the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) -- an international association and leading advocate for commuter transportation and transportation demand management (TDM). Every year, goDCgo launches a campaign to increase bike culture in the District, but we re-strategized to focus on biking for better health in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We also earned the award for Best Health Crisis Marketing Campaign by the ACT Chesapeake Chapter for our "Commute with Care" promotions, which we created to help raise rider confidence in using public transit while also mitigating the rise in single-occupancy vehicle (SOV) use.

While goDCgo conducts outreach and consults with DC employers, non-profit organizations, schools, residential properties, and hospitality entities, our Employer Services Program in particular received this year's Employer Services Sales Team Achievement Award by Commuter Connections for our team's ability to reach thousands of employers to provide transportation information and resources that help employees commute smarter, not harder.

We're proud of our accomplishments over the past year and appreciate all of the recognition, but we still always seek to recognize our partners who make this impact possible. The goDCgo Transportation Ambassadors Program recognizes DC organizations for their commitment to offer sustainable transportation information, options, and amenities to employees, residents, and visitors. Become a goDCgo Transportation Ambassador today so you can be rewarded for your efforts too!
