Summer is almost upon us, which means more sunshine for bike riding. Join the movement to grow the DC bike community and ride with purpose by pledging to goGREEN to saveGREEN! Here’s the simple math, goGREEN by riding a bike and saveGREEN by leaving your car at home. Those simple steps can have instant benefits such as improving your health, reducing pollution, saving travel time, and the cost of vehicle maintenance. Also, in DC, riding a bike can get you around faster than a car, especially during high-traffic periods like rush hour or during special events.
Whether you are a seasoned cycler, beginner, or just don’t know where to start, goDCgo is here to help! We've developed some resources and incentives to support this initiative to spread the joy of biking throughout the District.
- Take the “Pledge to Pedal” to bike more instead of driving and you’ll automatically be entered into our raffle for a brand new GREEN bike! Want more? The first 100 pledgers will also receive a complimentary Capital Bikeshare annual membership. Don't wait! (Insider Tip: If you share a picture on a peddler with the hashtag #bikeDC and mention @godcgo, we’ll double your bike raffle entry!)
- Find out how much you can save using the trip calculator. Describe your trip to find out how much money, pollutants, and time you could save by riding a bike instead of driving. Share your results with @goDCgo on Twitter using #bikeDC. Whoever submits the longest trip will be crowned goDCgo's bike ambassador and receive a $100 gift card to a local DC bike shop!
- Go for joyrides with friends and family. With busy summer schedules approaching, taking the time to ride a bike with friends and family is quality time well spent. It's also a new way to experience Washington, DC if you haven't already! To help you and your loved ones navigate the city, you can download the 2019 DC Bike Map. DC also makes it easy to explore the city by bike through its very own Capital Bikeshare system. A membership with Capital Bikeshare offers 24/7 access to thousands of bikes at hundreds of stations in the District and its surrounding counties. You can go for a single trip under 30 minutes for just $2! Or, consider a 24-hour pass or annual membership if you know you'll be getting your roll-on.
- Share the love of biking. To spread the word about biking in DC, we have printable postcards and flyers available that you can share. There's also a recently updated bike fact sheet that can be helpful in convincing non-riders to hop on two wheels. It features the latest stats about the growth and improvement of biking in the District, making it all the easier to access a bike.
